![]() And if you have elderly or poor health members that are thinking of attending, I would pass on this venue. This is not an event for small children - probably 10 and up is a good age. We are semi-local and based on our experience we were hoping to book my son's next birthday party.įirst and most important: do not go based on the age recommendations on their website. We came here with very high expectations after reading all of the amazing reviews. Hope you learn from my experience and save your time and money by NOT going to this place. Honestly, after wasting over 4 1/2 hours of family's time (plus the time it took yo travel to this place), I felt I was scammed with such a terrible experience. They said things like "we can sell you this item for this price ONLY for today!". Literally HALF of the magic show was pitching their goods from their "store.". I felt like I was in a kiddie birthday party where you hire cheap magicians. Dorothy probably had a total of ten tricks - most not impressive (tearing up newspaper, pulling pigeons out of a hat). We had to stand still in this crammed dirty room for 30 mins for our "tour" and I couldn't even see anything that she was pointing to. During the tour, they kept soliciting for "donations" - as if cost of our tickets were not enough. The guy also constantly brags about Dorothy (the main magician) and shows newspaper clippings of her - they were all written 30 years ago during her glory days. The place was filthy and a complete mess. When I was buying the tickets, the guy said "we never oversell, we only have about two dozen at a time." The tour was very disappointing. Then comes the tour where they cram literally 50 people into this tiny dinky little room (not safe with fire code!). First was a 10 minute movie which is basically self promoted show on themselves. We took our kids here based on the reviews. This is the biggest waste of time (4 hours) and money. Please save your $17 per person cost and SKIP this show. For me, maybe even again if we are in the Scranton area. At the juncture I could not tell you how long we were there. I personally judge visits like this one by how frequently I look at my watch. True or not the show was very entertaining and well worthwhile. The tour is capped off with a show performed by a magician that is said to be among the 10 highest rated in the world. The rest is as enjoyable as you make it looking at show advertisements, photographs and props. To see the water tank leading to his death and hearing the true details was a high point particularly when told by someone that knew him personally. To fully appreciate it one must search for items that stand out looking them over carefully before transferring attention to something else. ![]() In one respect the Houdini Museum was like most except more cluttered. known only as a place we passed through on our way to N.Y. Frankly we were not so excited to discover it was Scranton, Pa. ![]() We were not told of the destination until the bus departed.
